I’m feeling a little blue

Since we had the Bean, and are prepping for Bean #2, we haven’t done much shopping or work around the house.  I recently came into some unexpected cash, so we sat down, looked at the budget and decided it was high time we treated ourselves and invested into some trinkets for the abode.

Our house is kind of odd.  As a ginger, I’ve always gravitated towards Earth tones and Jer has too (even though he’s a non-ginger).  So, we have a lot of rich browns, oranges, reds and some deep greens.  But blah!  I’m sick of that.  I’ve slowly been working in pops of turquoise and aqua where I can while maintaining the cohesiveness of the space.  One place it’s easy to work in: the dining and kitchen area.

Thanks to my admitted obsession with vintage cookware and all things Fiestaware, we’ve added in some bright pops of green, yellow and blue.  But we decided to up the ante with our little bit of extra spending dough.  We also decided to up the vintage ante as well.  I present to you: our recent purchases for around the house (note: these are pictures that the item’s seller took):

Vintage 1920s aqua Ball jars converted into soap pumps for the kitchen.  We’ll use the larger one to hold dish soap and the smaller one for hand soap.

Vintage blue candy dish.  That’s another obsession/collection of mine – vintage candy dishes.  But it needed a pop of blue as well.

Vintage Pyrex Snowflake casserole dishes.  We needed these any way because we’ve been cooking and entertaining constantly lately.  Why not add some vintage charm to the table?  Yes, as the name implies, these dishes have snowflakes on them.  That might bother some people or make them only usable in the winter, but not us.  We’re representing our homeboy Old Man Winter year round.

There is something about the charm of vintage kitchenware that makes me feel warm inside.  :)  We also ordered a few non-modified blue Mason ball jars.  We haven’t decided what we’re doing with those yet.  I’ll keep you posted.  And once everything arrives, I’ll make sure to post some pictures of our little collection.

This also clearly illustrates why, when we decide to build our next house, the kitchen will be massive and needs to have lots of display space.  When we buy things, it’s mostly for the kitchen and/or dining areas.

Yay for feeling blue!

Also, stay tuned for an exciting announcement in the next few days!  It seems as though my adventure in blogging may be taking a new, exciting twist!  :)
