The student has not become the teacher

I run a small photography business on the side. It’s not something that I really focus on or push; I just do sessions here and there when people ask me to.

Someone recently asked me to. Only not just someone – a photographer who’s work I have loved and admired for years. A photographer who’s an internet celebrity, who is known internationally for her talent. A photographer who I call friend, who has made me a better photographer.

As I sat here tonight editing pictures, I kept feeling like I was back in the car during Drivers Ed. Like the instructor was watching and noting everything I should have done differently. Of course my friend is incredibly kind, sweet and supportive, so she’d never have a negative word to say. But still. Anxiety.

But it was such a blast. About 2 hours with an amazing family and a creative mother who had thought of everything. I love it.

See, this is what I need – someone to come show me how to use my camera and how to see things differently to get that one great shot. How lucky for you that got to spend the day with your mentor/idol/friend. :-)

If you’re ever in this neck of the woods, we totes need to hang out and 1) drink our faces off and 2) have a mini-photography class. I’d be happy to share everything I know. :)
